Behind the 5K: A Day in the Life of Our Volunteers

Each fall, purple floods parks and city streets across Canada. What might look like just another 5K race is, in truth, something much more meaningful—it’s a community of people running, walking, and showing up for one powerful cause: to fight pancreatic cancer. But behind every Craig’s Cause Kicking PancreAS™ 5K is a passionate group of volunteers who help make it all happen.

Day of the Event

On the morning of every Craig’s Cause event, before most participants have even arrived, our volunteers are already hard at work. They show up early, ready to transform a quiet space into a vibrant hub of community, remembrance, and hope.

From setting up tents and signage to organizing water stations, race kits, and registration tables, every detail is handled with care. These volunteers are the engine behind the event—ensuring it runs smoothly from start to finish.

But it’s not just about logistics. Volunteers are often the first people participants meet, offering warm welcomes, helpful directions, and encouragement along the course. Their presence helps create a positive, supportive atmosphere that uplifts everyone involved.

Their work makes a meaningful difference. Craig’s Cause events would not be possible without the time, energy, and compassion our volunteers bring. They help turn race day into something truly special: a day of action, connection, and impact.

Volunteers Power Our Mission

Each Kicking PancreAS™ 5K is more than a fundraiser—it’s a movement. Volunteers help with everything from race setup and registration to cheering participants across the finish line. Their work is hands-on, community-focused, and absolutely essential to our mission.

In fact, it’s thanks to our volunteers and local organizers that Craig’s Cause has been able to expand this national series to more cities across Canada each year. Their efforts go beyond race day—they help raise awareness, build local partnerships, and connect families affected by pancreatic cancer with vital resources.

Real Impact, Real Results

Volunteers don’t just show up. They show what’s possible. Last year, thanks in part to their efforts, Craig’s Cause raised thousands of dollars through 5K events alone—funds that directly supported:

Over $51,000 in patient aid to help with treatment travel and medication

The launch of Canada’s first Health Canada-approved PERT Calculator

Expanded awareness campaigns and clinical trial education

You can see a breakdown of that impact in our most recent Impact Report It’s proof that behind every purple t-shirt, water bottle, and finish line is real change—powered by people like you.
