Craig's Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society Cancer Third Annual Bike Tour

On September 26th, 2009 the Craig's Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society held it's Third Annual Bike Tour in Porter's Lake Provincial Park.

Our goal this year was $20,000! We had a beautiful day, an amazing turnout and so much support that we raised over $22,000 and still counting!

Thank you to all our Riders, Fundraisers, Corporate Sponsors and Volunteers who made the event such a huge success- see you all in 2010!

On October 14th, 2009 50+ cyclists will leave Vancouver for Austin, Texas raising awareness and research funds for four organizations;
  • Craig's Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society
  • Ovarian Cancer Canada
  • Lance Armstrong Foundation
  • The Canadian Cancer Society

Last year this organization (formally The Tony Griffin Foundation) donated over $26,000.00 to our Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. This year Give to Live is donating 1/4 of their proceeds to our Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund!

Pancreatic Cancer Society

On March 15th, 2009 The Decie LeBlanc Chapter in Cape Breton held their first Caper Skate. They had close to 100 who participated in their event, and they raised approximately $4000.00 for Pancreatic Cancer Research!

Thank you to all who attended, participated and a special thank you to Cheryl Weldon and her family who worked extremely hard on making this event a successful one!

Pancreatic Cancer Facts

  • Pancreatic cancer does not discriminate by age, gender, or race.
  • Each year 3,800 Canadians are diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
  • Each year 3,700 Canadians die from Pancreatic Cancer.
  • 1 in 79 Canadians will be diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
  • In 2006 the Canadian Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute of Canada published its annual report; Pancreatic Cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers.
  • 4-6% average survival rate after five years.
  • Pancreatic Cancer is an aggressive cancer which is asymptomatic (patients show no signs or symptoms) for many months before patients are aware of any health concerns.
  • Very few medical advancements, no effective early detection methods, minimal treatment options, and limited research funding make the urgency of this particular research fund all that more significant.
  • Pancreatic cancer remains one of the lowest research funded cancers to date with less then 1% of research funds available to Canadian Researchers.
